Elephant Butte Dam
| Just about 60 miles north of Las Cruces lies a great vacation place called Truth Or Consequences and Elephant Butte Lake and State Park. This lake is where competitive bass fisherman will come to catch some great striped bass. Plenty of room for camping right on the beach and boating galore. Some folks have a residence docked on the water. Plenty of sun and a very temperate climate, living is calm and predictable. The water will change colors at dawn and dusk and its purely beautiful. Water skiing is a popular pastime, and there are lots of wave runners. Many local vendors will rent boats and storage areas for rv’s and boats. Once in a while a diver will tell a story of catfish lurking at the bottom over six feet long.
The Rio Grande serves this reservoir and then feeds Caballo lake which is a well kept secret because some times the fishing there is peaceful and productive when Elephant Butte Lake is buzzing with activitity from weekend warriors that drive in from all over in the summer months. Come and visit this playground with enchantment in mind. Plenty of hotels, motels and campgrounds line I25 and the main streets of Truth or Consequences New Mexico. This town named itself after a popular game show. It’s a fact.
